10 Ways To Reduce Stress
01
It's Not About You
Try not to take anything personally. Even if someone says something personal to you, it’s never really about you. It’s about them and should be interpreted that way. What does that person’s actions or words say about them even if it was directed to you? Focus on that because it is very revealing of the type of person you are dealing with. Don’t own it and don’t carry it around with you.

02
Step Away From the Drama
Whether it is at work, within your circle of family members, or on social media, there will be times when you just need to separate from the negativity, energy suckers, or unresolved conflict between others. Consider it self care to give any drama queens or kings a lot of extra space away from you.

03
Plan it Out
Use a calendar app or a daily planner. Put down everything to track what your day/week/month will look like. If I’m super busy which causes forgetfulness, I will literally schedule in eating a snack, stretching, mailing a package, reminding myself to make a phone call, etc. Pro tip: you have to actually check the calendar or planner, which is why I switched to an app that chimes at me.

04
Bad Hair, Don't Care!
Don't care so much. Not about people or yourself, but about things like a messy house or being judged or your kid acting out. This is all normal stuff that we pay way too much homage to. Care more about being in the moment and saving your sanity.

05
SOS
Accept help. Ask for it if it isn’t offered. It’s strange, each of us would help someone who needed it without a second thought, yet no one ever wants to have to ask. Sometimes we are the helper, and sometimes we are on the other side. It’s just the life balance thing, so reach out if you need it.

06
Get Out
Get outside. Preferably somewhere with grass and trees and birds and water. Then, just be there. Don’t look at your phone. Don’t Tweet about it or post to Instagram. Instead, identify something you perceive with every one of your senses and just take it in. Breathe deeply. Repeat.

07
Choose Your Posse
Surround yourself with positive, like-minded people. The friends who encourage you, the groups with a shared passion, your cousin that always makes you laugh. Personalities are contagious, so choose them carefully because it really does make a difference.
08
Nite Nite
Getting enough sleep. And I don’t mean just barely enough to constitute remaining human and not zombify. I mean a solid 8-9 hour chunk on a regular basis. If you have to nap, don’t feel guilty about it. Napping can help to replace nighttime sleep that you are missing out on. Your body and mind need this time to heal and restore.

09
Baby Steps
Don’t think about the total project. Whatever you are facing, don’t look at it as a whole, which is super overwhelming. Break it down into a timeline, or into stages of little things to get done. Then just focus on the first couple of steps, getting through it a little at a time. Like football and first downs.

10
Soul Restoration
Schedule in down time. Book appointments and time each week for you to do something that restores your soul. Treat this time as sacred and don’t bump the time slots for other things.
